Couplings

A coupling is a device used to connect two shafts together at their ends for the purpose of transmitting power. Couplings do not normally allow disconnection of shafts during operation, however there are torque limiting couplings which can slip or disconnect when some torque limit is exceeded. These are available as Rigid and Flexible.

The various type of Couplings available are-

  • Tyre – These coupling cushions shock loads, absorbs tortional & lateral vibrations. These are used to neutralize parallel, acial and angular misalignments, end floats singly or in combination. There are various types of Tyre couplings available- Flexible, Spacer, Mounting Plate Couplings, U-Tyre etc.
  • Gear – This is a powerful coupling to provide protection against negative effects of Axial, Angular & Parallel mis-alignments in Mechanical Power transmission specially in High-Torque situations. There are various types of Gear couplings available- Full Gear, Half Gear, Spacer, Floating Shaft and Brake Drum Couplings etc.
  • Pin-Push – These are cushion drive type providing resilient drive transmitting torque through Pins fitted with Rubber Bushes which absorbs shock load, torsional vibrations and misalignment. These couplings are easy to install and dismantle.
  • Diaphragm – Diaphragm couplings transmit torque from the outside diameter of a flexible plate to the inside diameter, across the spool or spacer piece, and then from inside to outside diameter. The deforming of plates from I.D. to O.D accomplishes the misalignment. These are long-life and multidirectional and high tortional flexibility.
  • Star – These are designed to meet demand for low cost general purpose flexible couplings. These can be installed quickly.
  • Others – There are other types of couplings than can be made available on request like the Disc pad, Beam, Fluid, Metal-Flex, Chain etc.
